SYNOPSIS
The story centers on Wednesday Addams, who has fallen in love with a sweet, “normal” boy named Lucas Beineke. Confiding in her father, she begs Gomez not to tell her mother Morticia. Worlds collide when the Beinekes come to dinner.
As secrets come out and tensions rise, Gomez struggles to keep his promise to Wednesday while maintaining honesty with Morticia. Meanwhile, the Beinekes are drawn into the strange but oddly heartfelt world of the Addams family. By the end of the evening, both families learn that love, honesty, and accepting
differences are what truly hold families together and that every family—no matter how strange—has its own kind of normal.
Director’s Note
Bringing The Addams Family to life has been a joyful celebration of what it truly
means to be a family. At first glance, the Addamses may seem strange, spooky, or
even a little unsettling—but at their core, they are bound together by love,
loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to being unapologetically themselves.
Thanks to our cast and crew who have poured their hearts into this production,
capturing both the humor and the humanity at the center of this story. We hope
you laugh, reflect, and perhaps even see a bit of your own family in this
delightfully unusual one. Enjoy the show!

OnStage Uxbridge 2026 – 2027 Season

ABOUT THE ADDAMS FAMILY
The history of the Addams Family is a fascinating journey from the ink-stained
pages of The New Yorker to their status as global pop-culture icons. They have
spent nearly a century serving as the “anti-suburban” ideal—a family that is bizarre and macabre, yet arguably more functional and loving than any “normal” family on television.
- The Magazine Era (1938–1964)
The family began as a series of 150 unconnected gag cartoons by Charles Addams. In these single-panel drawings, the characters had no names and no formal “family tree.” They were simply a group of aristocratic ghouls living in a dilapidated mansion, finding humor in the dark, the damp, and the dangerous. - The Sitcom Revolution (1964–1966)
When producer David Levy approached Addams about a television series, the characters finally gained their identities. Creator Charles Addams famously chose the names we know today (Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Lurch, and Grandmamma). Unlike many sitcoms of the era where parents slept in separate beds, Gomez and Morticia were portrayed as deeply romantic and passionate, setting a new standard for TV couples. - The Animated Transition (1970s)
After the live-action show ended, the family lived on in animation. They made a famous crossover appearance on The New Scooby-Doo Movies in 1972, which led to their own Saturday morning cartoon series (1973). This era leaned more into the “spooky travel” trope, with the family driving a Victorian-style RV. - The Hollywood Revival (1991–1993)
Director Barry Sonnenfeld brought the family to the big screen with The Addams Family (1991) and the critically acclaimed Addams Family Values (1993). Anjelica Huston (Morticia), Raul Julia (Gomez), and Christopher Lloyd (Fester) gave the characters a sophisticated, high-energy edge. Christina Ricci’s portrayal of a deadpan, lethal Wednesday Addams redefined the character for a new generation. - The Modern Renaissance (2010–Present)
The Addams Family has successfully adapting to every new medium:- Broadway (2010): A musical comedy starring Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth explored the horror of Wednesday falling in love with a “normal” boy.
- Animated Films (2019/2021): CGI movies returned the family’s look to Charles Addams’ original, stout, and slightly more grotesque character designs.
- The “Wednesday” Era (2022–Present): The Netflix series directed by Tim Burton shifted the focus entirely to Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy, becoming one of the most-watched shows in streaming history.
At their core, the Addams Family represents the acceptance of the “other.” They are wealthy, polite, and fiercely loyal to one another. They don’t want to change the world; they just want to live their lives in a way that makes them happy, regardless of how many explosions or poisonings it involves.
Thanks to our Sponsors

Addams Family, the Musical to life on stage.
